Legacy Woods
Legacy Woods is a private residential development in eastern Lee’s Summit, MO. With large, single-family homes in a high demand in this area, the developer decided to start a new phase for residential construction. The engineering challenge here was dealing with a stream crossing as part of the road access to the new site.
Precast concrete arch bridges were chosen as the best structures for this application. The bridges were designed using Redi-Rock head walls and wing walls to provide the most cost-effective, aesthetically pleasing integration between the engineered structure and the natural environment. There are twin structures on this project. The first bridge, pictured here, was completed in late summer of 2017. The second is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2018.
There are a combination of Redi-Rock Limestone retaining wall block types used in both structures, including zero-setback PC retaining wall blocks and Free-Standing Hollow Core retaining wall blocks. By using Hollow Core retaining wall blocks in the Redi-Rock design, the walls on these bridges are able to function as barriers to the low-speed residential traffic above.
