UTSW Hospital Construction Project In Dallas
SI Precast Concrete recently supplied NELCO Worldwide with GigaShield blocks for new construction at the UTSW Hospital in Dallas, TX. NELCO’s GigaShield blocks are primarily used in radiation shielding applications in the healthcare industry. They can be found in nuclear medicine facilities where patients are treated using proton therapies, LINAC, CyberKnife, HDR, Gamma Knife and other procedures. The NELCO GigaShield blocks themselves are modular, interlocking, multi-density concrete units of varying dimensions specific to each project. The versatility of modular design allows the blocks to be quickly and easily assembled or disassembled, making the system ideal for vaults in existing facilities or freestanding bunkers. NELCO specifies a design unit weight of up to 250 lbs/ft.³, achieved with a custom mix design utilizing heavy aggregates. SI Precast produced these blocks in its Ennis, TX manufacturing facility.
